Pros

Great colleagues, support and, family atmosphere. Better work life balance than big 4 forms, better pay, better attitude. Less seasonality. Working hours are about 50-55 hours, very rarely weekends, drops to 40-50 in off season. (Big 4 would be 60-90 hours, 40 in off season) Smaller clients means more exposure to different areas if a single audit at lower levels.

Cons

Not a big 4 firm (in terms of contribution to career) Some of the clients are riskier than you'd get at big 4 firms

So glad you found the culture and work life fit favorable. These are incredibly important to us and to our ability to retain talent. As for "riskiness" we take our obligation to address financial reporting risks seriously and therefore invest heavily in both training and deep technical resources. Much great learning can be obtained in these dynamic environments!

Pros

It's a very good place to work. Good chances to progress and to move across other areas, even getting experience overseas. Opportunities to propose new ideas and take them forward. Good place to obtain a good work experience.

Cons

Lack of rewards like bonuses or instant awards for achieving tough objectives or meeting very high expectations.

Pros

office atmosphere is very outgoing and collaborative. Everyone seemed interested in helping interns learn. Very great culture and friendly faces. Hours are better than big 4 accounting firms, and they try to make up for the long days with catered lunches and other treats.

Cons

Commuting on the train was time consuming, but that was because I lived outside of the city. During busy season, even interns worked 60+ hour weeks. While it was difficult at times, I never had to work a Saturday. There didn't seem to be many options to take time off, unless very sick or emergency.

Thanks for your feedback! Every intern and new employee is a future manager in our eyes, so it is critically important that we do our job to help you thrive at BDO. We certainly support paid time off to recharge your batteries and bring the best of yourself back to us and our clients. The timing is of course to be balanced with client service requirements.
