Pros

None. Company name looks good on your future resume?

Cons

Working at the former BASF Catalysts/Engelhard site is a dead end job. Smart employees try to leave as soon as possible to other locations. Turnover at offices and especially R&D is very high. Senior VPs joke why someone would accept an offer here as opposed to a normal outfit like Exxon or DuPont. Everyone below a 5.1 strata (include technicians) are grossly underpaid (by some 15-20k per year). Bonuses, though promised, are not fully delivered even prorated for your first year. Morale at site is terrible--management treats employees as second class citizens and without respect.

Pros

Nice bragging rights to say you are working at the largest chemical company in the world. The company is is very strong financially. If you take initiative you can deal with other parts of the world.

Cons

Forget about a career unless you are German. The current trend is the promotion of German females. The nest best thing is an American with a German last name. The Company is totally inflexible in every regard and this extends even to customer engagements.

Pros

The company offers new starters a good training program, organizes plenty of extra-curricular activities, and generally treats its employees well. There are multiple levels of advancement possible, with some possibility of cross transfer to other functional areas if there are specific matching skill sets.

Cons

Rather bureaucratic, large scale organization. While claiming to support work/life balance, increased globalization and a high pace of change put a lot of pressure on a lot of people, particularly mid level managers, to work long hours.
