Pros

The R&D department at B. Braun Medical Industries is very inclusive and supportive. Interns are trusted with real responsibilities and are given a fairly independent working environment. Work is usually goal-oriented, and new interns are often assigned projects early on, with the opportunity to lead some of them while receiving the necessary guidance from an assigned work buddy. Managers are approachable and genuinely interested in helping interns learn during the internship period. Regular 1:1 sessions are held as two-way discussions to share progress, exchange ideas, and identify areas for improvement. Colleagues are generally helpful and willing to guide you, especially if you demonstrate initiative and contribute value to the team. The working environment is professional yet supportive, making it a great place to gain industry experience. There is also some level of international exposure, as B. Braun has branches around the world. Certain projects may involve collaboration with colleagues from different countries, allowing interns to experience working in an internationally connected industry environment. The working style is quite modern and digital, with most meetings conducted online through Microsoft Teams. Communication is generally kept within working hours, which helps maintain a reasonable work-life balance for interns without the expectation of responding to messages outside office hours. Interns also gain real industry exposure in the medical device manufacturing sector. Many projects are closely connected with production processes, and there are opportunities to learn about proper interdepartmental collaboration across different functions. Company is very very big and you could easily achieve move goals by just walking for lunch and some daily ups and downs. Interns are also treated quite similarly to permanent employees in terms of basic benefits. They are covered by insurance, entitled to fair annual and sick leave, and can visit panel clinics under the company’s coverage. Employees also receive a lunch allowance that can be used through the employee card. In addition, there are some employee discounts available at certain restaurants around the Bayan Lepas area. As a small bonus, the pantry area is well stocked, with unlimited espresso and Milo 3-in-1 coffee dispensers available for employees.

Cons

There can be a subtle bias toward interns who perform particularly well, as they may naturally receive more attention, opportunities, or easier engagement with some team members. However, this does not create a toxic environment. In general, colleagues are still approachable and willing to help when asked. As long as interns actively communicate and seek guidance, most people are supportive and willing to provide assistance. Within the R&D department itself, there are many divisions, and projects often involve collaboration across these internal teams. Because of this structure, strong communication and interpersonal skills are important to coordinate work effectively. Occasionally, different working styles or bureaucratic processes within divisions may slow down collaboration. Beyond the R&D department, interns may also need to engage with other departments such as production or other operational teams. This requires initiative and good soft skills to communicate clearly and seek assistance when needed. As with many internships, interns may occasionally receive small additional tasks or side requests from colleagues outside their main responsibilities. While these tasks are usually minor, they can sometimes add slightly to the workload.
