Hired too many too quickly

Pros

Some flexibility in work schedule. Managers are generally accommodating if a personal issue arises (e.g. sick family member). In general, coworkers are nice. Company is making some effort to update very outdated systems and equipment.

Cons

Hiring and promotion practices have led to people holding positions they are not qualified for and/or do not perform well at. This is for both technical and managerial positions and is at the root of a lot of the issues. Lack of scientific integrity. Bad laboratory conditions and practices. Large inequities in pay within the company. Pay is not commensurate with experience or performance. Workload is not well distributed. People who deliver will have less work/life balance. People who don't deliver will skate by.

Pros

Excellent place to work - managers respect when you need to work from home and occupational health help to put plans in place for this Great benefits and LTI (long term investments- 5 years) Some freedom to explore other departments and relevant research avenues Communicative team and work force Collaborative co- workers

Cons

New budgets- financial ones you can work with but CO2 budgets restrict over seas conferences to 1/2 days on a train. Wanting to work at speed- a push to work quicker for the same resource (this is the same for all biotech and biopharama companies) Not always told the full truth leading to many employees not believing higher management alot of the time

Pros

Scientist- and senior scientist-level employees are serious about their work. Work-life balance is great.

Cons

Director-level manager took credit for my work and didn't attribute credit appropriately to the Senior Director; she took leadership of the best/most advanced projects for herself; there was also bickering between the in vivo vs the in vitro groups, especially at the top of the food chain.
