Pros

Arkema works cohesively as a company. Communication and shared knowledge between plants on the same platform is better than any other chemical company I have worked for. Resources from across the company are available for support either remotely or on site when needed. I have also been highly satisfied with the leadership at the manufacturing director level and the impacts that are made locally.

Cons

High turnover since 2020 has left us with an undertrained workforce at the plant level. Relatively low pay across the board. Work/life balance is terrible due to high turnover.

Great benefits, not enough staffing

Pros

Best 401k I’ve seen. They’ll match the standard 4% if you contribute 5% but in addition they’ll give a 10% lump sum contribution every 6 months

Cons

Would not replace staff due to exits regardless of the department for extended periods of time. We lost an engineer and worked over 2 years without them ever posting the position. Still wasn’t posted at the time of me leaving. Lost 2 maintenance mechanics bringing the department down to 1, wouldn’t post the position for over 1 year. Started getting short on operators and they wouldn’t let us post the position despite us warning corporate that with future retirees coming up if we didn’t fill it would lead to down time. Finally after 2-1/2 years of being short we got low enough that we had to start shutting down plants due to no operators that they finally started allowing us to rehire. By that time we’d already racked up around 800 hours of downtime caused by operator shortages. Makes no sense to me how the economic bottom line of not refilling operators outweighs not filling 4 operator positions and running so lean that 1 operator taking a vacation shuts a plant down.
