Pros

You are able to contribute to the design of some multi-million dollar projects for Fortune 500 companies. You get to connect with some very smart, high level engineers who look at the cutting edge technologies for possible implementation. Some people in the company have literally written the books regarding new environmental remediation methods that we use.

Cons

While the projects are cool, there seems to be little praise or recognition for all the hard work (I'm talking something simple like an email or an in-person thank-you). Also, each office is basically it's own individual business unit so while we hear stories about how quickly coworkers on the West coast are able to get promoted and have a decent life-work balance, basically it takes someone in the Midwest years to move up the ladder (apparently need to wait for others to leave/retiree before you'll move up). Additionally it's all about BILLABLE HOURS. Be ready for your timesheet, you need to track down to the 1/10th of every hour. An email goes out almost weekly with each person's name and hours they worked that week so you can be compared to everyone in your office and division (again, the power of shame versus praise mentality).

Pros

The pay and benefits are decent. Travel and experience with larger companies possible.

Cons

Management is incompetent, arrogant and do anything to get ahead. Relocation provided at ridiculous cost for people who are not worth a second look for lucrative client. New York office filled with pompous PMs who believe they know how to run a project. No attention paid to the lower ranking staff and training provided is minimal. Lost large amount of our staff recently due to the recession- abosutely no loyalty to the worker- those doing the grunt work so they management can continue the wine and dine mentality!

Pros

Strong work-life balance, competitive compensation and benefits, engaging projects, and meaningful, purpose-driven work.

Cons

Leadership is weak, communication is ineffective, and there are limited opportunities for growth, advancement, learning, and training. U.S. workplace culture has largely eroded, with little to no visible U.S.-based leadership in place.
