Pros

-Apple makes genuinely amazing products and provides a mostly great experience for their customers. -Majority of staff have a really enthusiastic and positive attitude; you work with people who genuinely love what they do. You’re guaranteed to meet some really talented people working here. -Loads of benefits; really good healthcare scheme and loads of other little extras you can grab if you look for them.

Cons

There are no two ways about it. Working in retail is just awful and Apple Retail is no different. Expect rubbish hours, angry customers and a general notion that you’re going to have to deal with stupidity. Apple as a company will try and convince you otherwise, but my issue here isn’t with their ideology, but moreso the delusion that comes with the reality of working in Apple Retail. Considering this is now a trillion dollar company. The pay is simply too low considering what’s expected of you. Apple might be one of the most difficult companies to get accepted for. Passing probation is even harder, yet they don’t pay significantly more than anyone else. In fact, in recent years, they’ve actually fallen behind in terms of how much they pay compared to other similar companies. I’ve worked in 5 different Apple stores across my 4 and a half year tenure and experienced woeful management across the board. Micro managers, bullies, politicians. The politics in this company are probably the worst I’ve seen in any company I’ve ever worked at. Trying to make a career out of Apple is frankly borderline impossible unless you’re in bed with the right people. Half the time you just aren’t told what you need to do to become good enough for a particular role. When you are told, its deliberately vague and tricky to figure out. But It’s quite simple really. If you’re liked by the right people, you can ascend to ridiculous heights and have the career of your life here. If not, you’ll struggle forever while management constantly try to put you down and break you. For most of us, the latter is what happens, but there are those who accept it and those who fight it.

Pros

Working with smart people. Interesting problem to solve. Perks.

Cons

Mafia and cult like culture. Discussions are not based on good ideas or scientific merit. Loud voices and manipulative personalities will survive and do well. No future outlook. Junior unqualified management brought in from other departments. Many managers lack expertise and background in this field.

Pros

The benefits are good, however not really better than what other companies offer in Cork or Ireland in general. There are some great people in the department to work with.

Cons

The position has really gone downhill quickly. From being quite different from a general AppleCare job, it's now being incredibly micromanaged. Meetings, trainings, offline time is cancelled constantly due to service levels and management is sending out emails to the department threatening with disciplinary actions for small mistakes to people. The department has been understaffed for a very long time and it's only getting worse. There's a very big difference on how managers are approaching advisors - some are ok with people being off the phone to work on cases, even in busy times, while others are micromanaging them and asking them to go available to take calls all the time.
