Pros

Not much experience required to work in a lab, they are desperate to staff all 3 shifts because the turn over rate is obscene. Benefits are OK, 401k is not great but exists (4% match). Pay isn't completely terrible for someone desperate for a job out of college.

Cons

No career prospects. Strict restrictions in advancing within the NTL based on time of employment there, not based on skill or merit of applicant. Overall pay tops off after a year or two. Few learning opportunities. Red Cross doesn't care about keeping its employees, it's easier to hire a new contractor and pay them less. No commitment to the well-being of their employees. Benefits keep getting cut. Poor communication between management and workers. So far, few plans (if any) on improving treatment of employees (benefits, pay, recognition).

Bad Management

Pros

The mission is worthy and it feels good to believe you are helping people. The pay is very decent depending on your position.

Cons

There are some issues with the upper level management that trickle down to permeate every aspect of this company. Employees are not as engaged in the mission as they should be. They are always implementing new changes, often very rashly, and the outcomes are disappointing. It seems like a big waste of time and energy. Just general day to day is very tough. I have never cried so much in my life as I did working for ARC.

Pros

Very mission oriented. Passionate employees.

Cons

National Red Cross does not care about base level employees and it shows through salaries and lack of promotions
