Pros

Gives you hands on experience in any field you want to go into. Also constantly has positions opening or classes and training to take to further your career. Management is easy to talk to and constantly open to new ideas. Also reviews are given in a fair manner.

Cons

Some people are standoffish outside of your department. Other problem is you are working for a non-profit agency, so the pay isn't the greatest when first starting, but those that have been promoted higher up, get paid fairly well. In certain departments you have to work around everyone's schedule if you want a day off.

Pros

Amazing benefits, including a 401K and 403B, a pension (what's that word?) and generous vacation. Great people. Walk the talk re: work/life balance.

Cons

Organization seems in a constant state of reorg. Zero-tolerance for mistakes/errors in a regulated environment means a good deal of organizational and personal pressure to perform flawlessly.

Great mission, pockets of good-hearted people and volunteers.

Cons

They change course every other week. If you have been there for your entire career, you fit in. If you try to bring in fresh ideas, watch out. Very complicated place to work.
