Pros

Stable hours, overtime usually available, casual dress, fast paced work within an informal enviorment, stock options after two years, 3K toward associate or certification program.

Cons

High employee turn over, pay max out at 14.50 for Tier 1 and 18.00 per hour for Tier 3. After Tier 3 salary for Tier 4 and above is competitive. In theory high emphasis on quality and productivity. In practice low emphasis quality and nearly sole emphasis on productivity.

Pros

You will learn. A lot. This company has some of the most challenging, most exciting, most technologically engaging problems I have ever had to solve, and I learned an amazing amount in the time I was there. You will find something in their culture to value. The principles of leadership are impressive, and the way they interplay with each other actually informs how the company operates.

Cons

Your employment will be a blessing or a condemnation depending almost entirely on the team for which you work. I was in Builder Tools on the deployment engine team, and in two-and-a-half years my life was hell. I was forever understaffed, overworked, and unsupported. My manager provided no coaching, no guidance, and no support except on performance "reviews" which were almost entirely full of new information. He was forced out of management, but not before ruining my chances of keeping my job. When I brought the matter up to HR and said I was being unfairly treated, their direct answer was, and I quote, "if we did something about this, we'd set a precedent of letting employees dispute their reviews, and then we couldn't manage." After that, I had no interest in fighting for my job, since it was clear the company had no interest in fighting for me.

Pros

*Solid proprietary systems allow for building software services extremely fast and easy *Great opportunity for career growth as Amazon in Toronto is expanding (Continue to go on the route for Software, opportunity to be a Project Manager, and also go down the road of being a manager) *Work with very smart individuals

Cons

*Strong focus on delivery forces developers to think of solutions fast that typically cause maintenance issues 1-2 years down the road (Low quality of code) *There is no such thing as under promise and over deliver since Management's expectation for developers is to pressure them into delivering as much as possible *Work/life balance: On-call on some teams are hectic (pages 2-4 times a week at any time of day). *Remote Office: Being in a remote office in Toronto means late meetings with Seattle and less visibility to Seattle counter parts sometimes impacting promotion cycles. Barely any community feeling.
