Pros

Great compensation, particularly in the early years (when it's mostly in cash) Working with incredibly talented and dedicated people is inspiring Projects are cutting-edge: you'll be telling your grandkids about them

Cons

Darwinian (Hobbesian, even) ethos takes it toll on your personal life: the company will take everything you will give it, and it won't hug you back. Balance is a bad word, never to be uttered It hasn't grown up as a company: this is not yet a good corporate citizen.

Pros

The scheduling at Amazon is 4 days on, 3 days off. There are opportunities for Voluntary Overtime year-round. The company is a stickler for time and will send you home when you are 30 minutes from hitting 60 hours to make sure that you don't go over. They offer Paid Time Off, Unpaid Time Off, and Vacation which all get earned each quarter - on every check. Most of the Managers are genuinely interested in helping you learn various skills and departments so that you can further your career. The benefits are highly competitive and the best I've had to date, and your pay is Direct Deposited at the exact same time every pay period. You never have to worry about your check being late or coming in on different days. There is a lot of walking and a lot of standing for your entire shift, but you get used to it quickly and it helps keep you from feeling lazy. There is also a clinic on campus, which is nice. The warehouses are climate controlled and there are fans on each floor. The temperature isn't perfect, but there are a lot of employees to accommodate and you are comfortable enough to get through your day.

Cons

There are weeks when you are put on Mandatory Overtime which I don't find to be negative per say. However the latest they are required to give notice of Mandatory is by lunch time the day before and that can be inconvenient for a lot of people. Although you are able to earn and receive Time Off, Sick Days are not provided. This can cause a real problem when you have been sick and still have personal business to attend to during the week. During PEAK season you will work 6 days straight for 10-12 hours. It's only for 2.5 months, but it is extremely difficult to pull off and that is when most people quit. There is a lot of standing and walking for the entire shift which many people may not be used to. It's something you need to be prepared for. Communication needs to improve throughout the entire facility.

Pros

Lightning fast growth, big crazy ideas they aren't afraid to explore and won't punish you for trying, super smart and talented coworkers, always focused on the customer experience and customer satisfaction, quick to correct a customer-focused blunder, shaping the future of everything, be in the middle of a revolutionary company at its peak

Cons

No work/life balance, crazy long hours every single day, expectation that you will work while sick and on vacation, annual performance goals are set above previous year's goals rather than against previous year's actual results making goals essentially unattainable, constant chaos as teams implode and lose people every month, bias toward youth, if you aren't a business analyst or math whiz you won't succeed, very secretive about even the smallest things, cult like environment, marriage and kids are a detriment unless you intend to see them rarely, health suffers because people go to work sick and are constantly stressed, you can bring your dog to work but it's only because they don't want you to leave the office to take care of him or anything other than Amazon
