Pros

Lots of vacation days and holidays, advancement opportunities, numerous locations across the US., collaborative environment, ability to transfer between departments within the company, good training programs for new employees, bonus programs, very accepting and open towards diversity, opportunities for community involvement and volunteer programs, good overall benefits package.

Cons

Work/life balance is terrible at times, lots of no-value added work, conservative work environment, seem to be lacking appropriate technology for being a Fortune 100 company, lack of recognition for non-bonus level employees, don't encourage or reward advancing education, promotions seem to be based off of tenure rather than accomplishments, departments seem to work in silos.

Pros

The people! The employees at Allstate are caring, fun, and easy to get along with. You'll make great friends while working here. Work/life balance is strongly encouraged and supported. Onsite daycare and fitness center (at the home office) are very convenient and a lot of paid time off is given - even in the first year of employment (3 weeks in first year, 4 weeks between 2nd and 5th year). Also, flexible work hours and telecommuting policies also contribute to balance of work and life.

Cons

There are a few bad apples that micro-manage. Also, there doesn't seem to be much knowledge-sharing between departments. This makes working across departments difficult.

Pros

Great balance between work and family life! The company is very stable and you can feel pretty secure about your employment. If they do have to lay people off, they work hard at making it as painless as possible with a decent exit package. They are also very community service oriented as they plan and encourage regular events for employees to participate in to help various communities and organizations.

Cons

Promotions are not always based on merit and qualifications. There seems to be more importance put on "who you know" and "how well you get along" with superiors than on the qualifications, skills, and abilities a person possesses. As a result, a number of people placed in managerial roles lack the "people and leadership skills" needed to perform well. This results in teams not performing as well as they could. Peer to peer recognition is very good but recognition from the manager level is not. Pay and salary increases are below average.
