Pros

Focus on family, work / life balance and diversity. Fairly good benefits (at least until recently) with company 401K matching.

Cons

Bureaucracy and highly charged political environment. Despite 360 surveys and other initiatives, almost no communication gets propagated upstream, communication downstream is often misleading. Management is a mixed bag of goods, with some smart and driven individuals rising through the ranks and predictably leaving the company. Favoritism aplenty. Free interpretation of diversity with many teams having at least one "challenged" individual with the rest of the team having to shoulder his or her part of workload as well. Opportunities for growth or for moving within the company are nothing but a joke in 95% of the cases. No strategic direction when it gets to the middle management level.

Pros

Great health insurance - endless options. Onsite dry cleaning, convenience stores, great cafeterias - and that's pretty much where the pros end.

Cons

Don't know where to start. Everything from parking to management sucks. Managers don't know which end is up and are always trying to one-up each other. No career path, yet they micro-manage with quarterly "checkpoints" (mini performance reviews & smackdowns). Complete sticklers about how & when you can take your vacation (24 hours notice is a MUST otherwise you get an "occurance" on your record), calling in sick is an "occurance". Five occurances in a 12 month period gets you formally written up. I worked in two different departments and they had totally different cultures. HR was actually a lot of un, but IT was AWFUL. No guidance, no training, no introductions, just "here's your desk, do you job." That being said, there were always meetings about nothing. You'd sit in a meeting for 1-2 hours and come out not knowing anything new. I finally left because I couldn't take the disorganization and chaos of IT.
