Pros

Good pay and plenty of autonomy. Less cult-like than other firms. The work is generally impactful and interesting. There are friendly, down-to-earth people, which makes parts of the job enjoyable. Pockets of excellence - but hard to find. A new office is coming and there are efforts to improve the brand and experience.

Cons

Be warned. It’s a low-performance culture—fine if you want to stay in consulting and coast, but not if you want to learn and grow or build a long-term career. This is mostly because leadership quality is overwhelmingly poor. Some of the MDs are excellent, and there are select Directors typically from other firms that are amazing, but they are overwhelmed by the rest... Many Directors have been at Alix a long time, or have poor consulting backgrounds and lack the expertise to lead projects and don't have knowledge of best practices. A lot rests on MDs to fill the gap, who don’t really have the time to mentor. They do recognize it, but they seem reluctant to lean into the problem. Instead, they are trying hard to recruit externally for experienced talent at VP / SVP level to pick up the slack. As these long time Directors wield high ownership over the promotion and bonus process (which is completely subjective - honestly there are no measured criteria) the whole system instead favors those who conform and tone down their capability and experience to match these long timers. The new talent gets stuck and unempowered to bring in needed expertise and best practices. The circle perpetuates. Unsurprisingly, it tires quickly. If you are considering moving, you need to decide if the money is worth it in the long run.
