Pros

Alcon has a great pay structure, and good benefits. Good management and a great product portfolio. Good work/life balance. Overall good company

Cons

The only problem is if you hit say 150% of plan, they raise your cap up so high it is impossible to hit it next year with market share and penetration.

Pros

They provide a good work environment with a competitive salary and benefits. In addition, the products you make will have a direct effect on the quality of life of the people who use it.

Cons

There's a lot of management overhead, and redundancy that could easily be eliminated in order to make it more efficient.

Pros

- It's good to work for a company you're proud of and where you love the brand. - The work itself is enjoyable, without interference from management or unreasonable expectations. - Getting contact lenses for almost nothing.

Cons

Morale is at an all time low, not only because of the Alcon Merger but because the company is more worried about it's reputation during the merger than the employees who will help it succeed. Employees at all levels (from lower management to us a bottom-of-the-totem-pole employees) are miserable because they are doing their best at their jobs and are proud of the Ciba Vision products, but we're overworked, we get no praise, no reward and are only communicated with when there is a problem. If we are the bottom of the totem pole, there is absolutely no room for a promotion unless you "know someone". Internal job openings are not always posted, and people are being hired without the rest having a chance to even apply. It creates the atmosphere of hiring friends over skilled workers. If you aren't given the proper exposure based on your job, you are stuck where you are. Although there are some knowledgeable in upper management, many don't know how to properly manage people, to motivate and inspire them. Also, there are managers and supervisors who have no idea about the work their direct employees do, making it unfair when they have to rate them in performance reviews because if management were having to cover this workload, they wouldn't fair so well either. It's very unfair that the ones who are actually doing the grunt work to get the product out the door have the lowest bonuses and lowest salary increases and are very, very under appreciated, and taken for granted.
