Pros

The benefits are decent. Onsite gym and cafeteria. Money is no object on R&D projects. Captive molding and assembly operations.

Cons

Not long ago the CEO of Alcon sent out an email highlighting a new perquisite for employees that basically entitled employees to work half days on Friday without taking PTO during the summer. The only caveat being you had to put your time in throughout the week. The immediate next day local senior management revoked the new perk. Good job and way to boost employee morale. With all that, communication isn't exactly stellar. Large talent pool with a lot of egos. Under performers can hide in this org for years. Maybe that's a perk?... Time keepers keep you on a tight leash.

Pros

Great benefits and generous salaries. Beautiful campus, access to fitness center, discount store, credit union, campus doctor. Good communication from executives on general expectations for employees. Good collaboration among departments.

Cons

Since the Novartis acquisition there has been low employee morale as there has been nonstop change. It has become much too common for talented people to get laid off and many current employees live in fear of it. They're thinning out the employees in favor of contracted temps who unfortunately are treated like outsiders. Alcon has great potential to be a great employee-focused company (like it once was before the merger apparently) but it is not there now because management doesn't see the benefits. They talk about focusing on talent development, but its just that... talk. Stress levels are very high due to the irrational focus on growth, growth and only growth.
