      Pros

      Alcon used to be a really great company to work for. Awesome benefits, talented and dedicated people to work with, and it was a very customer-oriented company.

      Cons

      When Novartis took over, they made many changes, many of which have not turned out to be for the benefit of Alcon's reputation, its employees, or its customers.

      Pros

      Full pipeline with innovations that address the needs of millions of patients. Their mission of restoring and preserving vision is at the heart of everything they do. Leadership changes are going in the right direction and the compensation is very competitive.

      Cons

      Too lean which detracts from their desire to have work life balance.

      A Good History With This Company

      Pros

      I enjoyed the majority of my time working at Alcon. They offered good opportunities to learn on the job, provided decent salaries and more recently an improved work/life balance through, for example, flexi-time.

      Cons

      Now becoming a fully integrated division of Novartis, the work location needs to be carefully considered - some facilities are likely no longer a part of the longer-term strategy and significant numbers of positions are being moved to lower cost locations.
