Pros

Great benefits, amazing coworkers... Love my job! Love my department! Everyone here builds morale and really enjoys each other's company, which in a stressful job, really makes all the difference in the world.

Cons

Novartis, Alcon's parent company, outsources meetings altogether and as Alcon moves towards more of Novartis' ideals and outlooks, I'm nervous that they'll eliminate my department. They will offer a severance package so that's a plus! Also there are some politics involved in development and moving up but if you're a workhorse, you'll go far! They have trouble balancing home and work life so in my job, if you're not 100% in love with this job and this life, you'll hate it.

Pros

Opportunities galore. Benefits. Leader in healthcare segment.

Cons

In some areas, people-based processes, accompanying stone-age tools, and an unaccountable org-structure, and some employees have not been exposed to anything else and/or are not incentivized to innovate.

Current overall culture

Pros

Leader within the industry, strong product pipeline and product portfolio. Company continues to invest in the future and positioned for longterm success. Poised to maintain market share lead or close second, depending on product and category.

Cons

Core culture of what has made Alcon a great place to work has evaporated after the acquisition by Novartis. Company looses focus on long term strategy in lieu of quarterly targets. Company is not equipped to effectively handle current medical rules and regulations versus the competition. There is no culture of accountability. Management does not display a clear path to success, it is overshadowed by short term goals to satisfy next tier management.
