Pros

Although the list of pros is so sparse I did enjoy some of the people I worked with. Particularly, the people in the Centre Warehouse. Some of the people who are working there I am lucky to have met. Also, overall there is a good mix of people. lots of diversity.

Cons

The fact of the matter is that Novartis does not care about their employees. They use the temps up for 3 years and do not hire them on as full time employees. This is why I believe Alcon does a disservice to the community of Fort Worth. You have these temp workers who have invested 3 years with the company and vice versa, the company has invested in them, and yet they do not hire them on full time. It blows my mind. There is no reason for this. It truly creates a split environment. Then you add on that you have these people working SEVEN days a week, if they miss one "mandatory" day the temps are let go. I do not know any humans who can work 7 days a week every week and be sufficient in their job as well as maintain a work life balance. There is subtle racism in all of Alcon, and it goes both ways. The white managers fire all the black employees or have an issue with them yet don't have issues with their white employees and the black managers always have an issue with the white employees. Sitting in the ASPEX cafeteria is an interesting place to hear the drama of the company. The full time associates talk bad about their company while the temps feel used and mistreated. On top of all this, you have certain full time associates who BULLY the temps. In one instance, even heard an Alcon employee say to a temp worker "I do not help TEMPS, it's not my job" This decreases the moral of the entire organization. How can someone who WAS ONCE A TEMP WORKER say that to another person trying to be successful in the same role? Absolutely ugly, rude, and unecesaary. My best advice is NOT to go work at Alcon. I did not even touch on the fact that Alcon has extremely limited parking for it's employees. Then, they decide to do more construction taking out half of the ONLY PARKING LOT AVAILABLE, where are the employees supposed to park? When it is pouring rain, and you have to walk a mile to get to WORK,it sets the tone for a bad day. THANKS NOVARTIS. YOU CARE ABOUT YOUR EMPLOYEES SO MUCH. NOT!

Alcon Response

Thank you for your comments. It is this kind of feedback which allows us to continually reexamine how we can become a better company. At NVS/Alcon, our associates are our most vital asset. Without our associates, we simply cannot achieve our mission of providing innovative products that enhance quality of life by helping people see better. Like most other large companies, Alcon has a number of full time, part time, and temp associates. Every associate is highly valued and plays a critical role for the business. Many of our temporary associates do end up becoming permanent associates which allows for great development to take place for those individuals. You have mentioned examples where you felt employees were not being treated fairly due to their respective job position or race. Everyone at NVS/Alcon must be treated fairly, equally and with respect regardless of their role, race, ethnicity, age or any other respective dimension of difference. If anyone experiences anything different, we strongly encourage them to engage their manager and/or human resource partner so any issues can be appropriately resolved. An inclusive environment allows all of our employees to thrive and fully contribute, performing at their highest level. We are committed to this objective. Lastly, associates at our sites usually work 5 days a week but the schedule can be temporarily increased due to customer and patient demands.

Pros

Company has been taken over by Novartis and the current regime is in danger.

Cons

Too many old school players still at Alcon. No vision, no leadership, no direction......current leadership is still holding on to the fame/luxury that Alcon provided in the 90's. Not work-life balance plans. Company culture has lost its identity. No cross-divisional work or stretch assignments. If you take a International assignment....you will never come back. If you do...it will be to a lesser position with no growth opportunities.
