ASPEX Compounder II

Pros

Seniority is not the only factor when considering promotion to Compounder III or lead, so newer employees still have equal opportunity. There are opportunities to learn additional skills outside of just compounding. Collaboration with validation engineers, automation engineers, R&D, critical utilities maintenance, etc. Once initial training of washroom and fill lines is complete, assignments are typically different each day when compounding, so the work does not get repetitive. The work environment is fast paced and the people are great. 5 Broadbanding training books, can complete one per year for a 3% raise on top of merit increase.

Cons

Somewhat of a bottleneck within Compounding for moving up. Three shifts, two leads each shift, one supervisor each shift. Each shift has between 12-14 Compounders, so it takes time to move up within compounding.

Pros

Malaysia Alcon in particular is an excellent workplace. The HR and central management teams put in a lot of effort to improve associates’ experiences and engagement. They listen to feedback and act on it effectively, creating a safe, supportive environment. Everyone is friendly and helpful, with flexible working schedules and zero micromanagement. The overall culture at Alcon is outstanding. No matter the level—whether a VP or an associate—everyone treats each other with respect, even during critical moments. You never hear raised voices, only collaboration. The environment is engaging and supportive, with excellent facilities such as a massage room, vending machines, and premium coffee options that show care for employees’ well-being.

Cons

Like every global company, Alcon has many projects and initiatives. Sometimes projects move at high speed, which is exciting, but it can also create extra workload if issues are not fully resolved before new projects begin. My suggestion would be to ensure project investments are maximized by closing out defects thoroughly and aligning timelines with employees’ capacity. Another valuable opportunity is in feedback: employees’ voices are a strong asset, and acting on their input consistently (especially at the global level) will make Alcon even stronger. I’m happy to note that in Malaysia this is well practiced, and extending this approach more globally would be powerful. Lastly, the CI & Lean Six Sigma journey is excellent for building skills and efficiency. To make it even more impactful, focusing projects on truly reducing workload across functions (rather than shifting tasks from one team to another) will help ensure improvements are both meaningful and sustainable. Earning the belts with high-quality projects that deliver real value strengthens both the company and employees’ experiences.
