Pros

The excitement of travel (at first) including all the benefits and perks that come with travel was great. Accenture consistently hires some of the most driven, intelligent people. Working beside them provides healthy and competitive challenge. It is always nice to work for a company that carries some prestige. Despite the competition from smaller boutique consulting firms, Accenture continues to prove that it is the best at consulting and it makes employees proud to be included in that claim. It is also a good place to meet many young, attractive professionals with similar interests and background for the purposes of dating.

Cons

Accenture has never figured out how to competitively compensate its employees. Any of its analysts, consultants and managers could leave the firm at any time and find a job with a competing firm or former client and be virtually guaranteed to receive a higher salary under less stressful working conditions. Accenture was never good at honoring the travel requests of employees. The employees that really wanted to travel were usually staffed locally. Those who did not want to travel were staffed on extended projects away from home. The firm became significantly less fun back when it went public in 2001.

Pros

Working with a lot of young smart energetic committed collaborative fun coworkers. Starting out with 5 weeks time off. Given a lot of independence and pushed to grow quickly and be proactive problem solver.

Cons

According to coworkers there can be a lot of unexpected overtime where you get guilted into it by committed teammates; for the consulting workforce 100% travel is a distinct possibility (I've never experienced either of these personally; however I did have unexpected inconvenient travel). For consulting there is a strong "up-or-out" push to go quickly into management and sales, which can be frustrating if you want to become stronger/deeper technically before moving up, and leads to a huge frustrating lack of technically skilled team leads and technical mentoring- I very quickly became a trusted "expert" to my non-technical managers despite feeling like I'm just trying to learn new technologies myself, and have had a very difficult time getting anyone to look at my work to give feedback to help me grow. The fact that it is a huge company means you can easily get lost and feel ignored/unappreciated despite their myriad programs to try to address this- the person assigned to give me ratings/feedback has never been located in the same region as me, and has changed frequently, so I haven't been able to develop a close relationship/advocate for my career advancement. They also have a strange approach to training where they see Accenture-specific training as adequate, so they are not supportive of pursuing outside certifications or degrees.

Pros

The fact that I have been at Accenture for 4 years, speaks wonders itself. I believe that Accenture truly has the best people and the best networking available, that you can carry with you throughout your career, whether it be at Accenture or elsewhere. I find that senior management is very encouraging to help you achieve what you want in your career, and will endorse you when transferring to another division, or changing career paths altogether. Accenture also encourages further education to everyone, and offers a tuition reimbursement if this education will help further your career, and also gives access to every employee to participate in classroom trainings across the country and computer based trainings on virtually every subject you would need to learn (eg. excel training for beginners)

Cons

Depending on the project you are put on, there could be essentially 100% travel, or 0% travel. When it is 100% travel, there is no work-life balance, and you work quite a bit of overtime. However, there is also alot of downtime in between projects, where you don't know what to do with yourself. Another downside of working at Accenture is the promotion process. You are up against every other level in your department in the country, so therefore you get rated amongst everyone, so although you may get an exceeds rating from your review, this might not correspond to an exceptional pay increase or bonus, because you are based out of everyone in the country.
