Pros

Easy access to high profile clients Nice events

Cons

- Near impossible to change clients or projects, so don't ask unless you want to go down the road performance reviews followed by disciplinary hearings for lack of performance (with no substance) - Business managers, project directors and project leaders will find any way to stab you in the back. - no trust or job security - if they want to get rid of you they will find any way to do so - pettiness from business managers - no care for staff well-being or mental health issues caused by the job - no support - constant backstabbing and gossiping by business managers - making minor grievances into disciplinary hearings led by business managers - feels like a playground with the disorganisation this company brings - will be happy to put you inter-project (i.e. no client, but will still pay you) but - will reduce your notice period with no notice if inter-project from 3 months to 1 - ridiculously time consuming processes including time sheets that you have to provide the same information in a minimum of 3 different places in per month - no clear direction - business managers are keen to talk about all your negatives and will never praise you for good work - high turn over of staff as a consequence - will put you in any job and not take into account what you want to do

Thank you for you review. We are striving to create a collaborative and inspiring environment for all our employees so I am sorry to hear about your experience. As a growing company, receiving feedback is a priority in order to ensure a long lasting development, and we will continue to find ways to improve. I would like to address a few of your specific points here. When it comes to project change, this is a discussion that needs to take place with the career and account managers with as much anticipation as possible. Indeed, we are supporting our consultants willing to discover new horizons, but it is important to bear in mind that organizing a change of project has many implications and cannot unfortunately happen overnight. We will always take into account the consultants expectations, however, the very nature of our business means we are reliant on opportunities coming up with our clients and prospects, which might affect the timing for a project change. It seems you did not have the best experience of interacting with Business Managers. At Alten, Business Managers are entrepreneurs. They are in charge of “a company in the company”, their Business Unit. As entrepreneurs, they are encouraged to create positive and virtuous cycles and first and foremost, to face their responsibilities. They have no interest in "stabbing their consultants in the back” or gossiping. If you felt there was a misunderstanding between yourself and your manager, I encourage you to have an open and transparent discussion with him or her. The career paths available to our consultants are explained from the first stages of the recruitment process (technical expertise, project management or business management), and the steps to progress towards one of the paths are discussed individually in career management follow-up meeting which take place every three months. Finally, to address your point on staff well-being, I would like to kindly remind you that we have, as part of the company benefits, an Employee Assistance Programme, available to all, and we have repeatedly encouraged our employees to make the most of it throughout 2020, an especially challenging year. We also triggered an employee well-being survey and have a Mental Health First Aider in the company, available to help anyone in need. I hope this helps demonstrate that our employees well-being is a priority. Thanks again for your feedback and I am sorry you did not seem to enjoy your stay in the company. Your review seems to be the fruit of misunderstandings and miscommunications, and I would like to assure you we will take this into consideration, and continue to strive to offer the best experience to all employees.

Pros

The are perfectly clear with what you get and how things work.

Cons

Low salary and small raises, regardless of your results. The company will always prioratize its interests which are often the opposite of the employees interests. There is no perspective of growth unless you want to became what they call a business manager, which is a fancy name for a recruiter (yes, you move from an engineering role to a recruiter?!?!).

Thank you for your review. As a company, receiving feedback is a priority in order to ensure a long lasting development and we will continue to find ways to improve. As in most organisations, at Alten we believe in progression based on merit. We expect our employees to strive towards excellence and deliver to high standards first, to be eligible to rewards such as bonuses or promotions. The targets are ambitious, achievable, and communicated in the most transparent manner from the very first step of the recruitment process. Developing and retaining our talents is one of our top priorities, this is why we offer the opportunity to our employees to develop throughout one of our several career paths, which cover: Expertise, Management, Business and Support Functions. Becoming a Business Manager is thus not the only way to progress in the organisation. Recruiting their teams of engineers is one of the many responsibilities Business Managers have, which also include commercial activities, managing a team, handling bidding processes, etc. This wide range of possibilities enables our employees to benefit from a bespoke career plan that is built together with their manager. Progression along these paths is supported through training and development. We see retribution as something global, not limited to base salary. Alten offers an attractive package to all employees, who get an extensive set of benefits and a bonus system based on performance, on top of the base salary. We are constantly reviewing market trends to ensure a proper alignment of our policy and the market. Thank you again for sharing your feedback and please rest assured we will keep striving towards ensuring we offer the best workplace to our employees.
