      Terrible management

      Work place pension and ALS advantage scheme

      Management are inexperienced and lazy. If your face doesn’t fit you don’t progress. I have been a loyal member of staff going on 5 years and I have to continually push to progress and keep getting lame reasons why I cannot. Even though there has been instances of new staff progressing above senior members of staff with no technical experience. Case in point previous starter I trained with no science background or experience is now my team leader and I was advised that she was a stronger candidate, regardless of my science degree and over 10 years experience in other labs. She got the position based on the fact that she was friends with upper management and her face fit.

Clearly you are disappointed that you did not get the position you applied for so would suggest that you ask for more feedback. Interviews include an assessment and it would be worthwhile understanding where your development needs are, such that you can progress your career. As a growing company there are always opportunities and we endeavour to help all employees reach their full potential. We would recommend a meeting to discuss further, if you are open to that.

      Lab tech

      Pros

      Great if you just graduated and have zero experience. U can learn a lot quickly if you end up in particular departments. Good chance to use a lot of variety of techniques, instruments ect.

      Cons

      Pay. Production based atmosphere. Advancement is restricted by there need to do everything go through their corporate offices. HR problem go through corporate rather than through the people u are actually working with/for.

      High staff turnover

      Pros

      Non at all what so ever except 4 days on and 4 days off. But if you've got children don't even bother.

      Cons

      If you've got a science degree I wouldn't bother at all. You're never gonna get anywhere and if you're not part of the click or if you're face doesn't fit you'll never get anywhere at all. The staff hate the job and the turnover is the highest I've ever seen as it's reaching 85%

      In response to your comment regarding Sittingbourne and the 4 on 4 off shifts and the work life balance. I would like to advise you that we do have flexible working policies in place and many staff have applied for flexible working and in most cases we are able to accommodate their requests. The shift systems have been in place for a number of years and are outlined during the recruitment process. We have introduced a salary progression system which is visible for all staff and there is definite progression available for employees as technical and behavioural competencies develop. It is unfortunate that you do not seem to have explored what is available to you whilst you were in our employment.
