Pros

Flexible and Convenient Location Quick basic experience for lab skills

Cons

Overworked (Lack of staff and Organisation from Managing positions) increasing workload as years pass. Some management/senior staff lack knowledge of all the tests run in the lab creating poor organising of tasks and pushing more than a days worth of work onto one employee. Even making myself and other employees take over tasks that arent in our job description than what the senior lab employees are doing on a daily basis. High turnover of new staff as there are rarely any opportunities to rise in the company. Reluctant to give pay rise no matter how good you are doing, even with 150%+ productivity and great QA QC compared to other employees.

Pros

The team is very supportive of each other with both workload and management related issues.

Cons

Management creates an overwhelmingly negative and toxic environment, which has resulted in half the team leaving in 6 months. Staff wellbeing takes a backseat to high work volume. Many of the staff who leave aren't replaced by new staff due to "budget reasons" - creating a stressed, overworked remaining team. Any issues that are raised get ignored, and only paint a target on your back; speaking out against abuse only creates a dead end for any future career growth with the company, and years of scrutiny under a microscope. Pay rises are non-existent. Enterprise Agreements are ignored and are "only a guideline" until the Union is forced to intervene. HR and upper management are only there to defend the company. The manager will destroy your confidence if you show any initiative.

Pros

-Good training and experience early on in a few different processes. -Employing primarily young graduates, everyone tends to have a great sense of humour.

Cons

-Moderately high staff turnover (avg one staff member every 3.5 months in a team of ~15) -Low salary (19.2k after ~3 years of experience) -Poor progression in both salary and role. Once you have 1.5 years of experience, you will want to move on to something new. -Poor sick pay for Covid isolation. (Management say this is an HR decision, either take SSP or annual leave) -Long history of putting business goals above welfare of employees. (e.g pay freezes while company was experiencing growth during the pandemic, not requiring mask use until Jan 2021, weekend work below 4 hours is paid at base rate) -Incredibly repetitive, dull work. Vast majority of processes are mastered in 2 weeks to 1 month. -Very frequent 'surprise' influxes of work. -Uncomfortably fast paced. -Manager has no clue what is happening in the lab at any one time. (no we cannot find 10 minutes for random task X)
