Pros

Home office is in many roles no issue. Trust in employees is high. Even for interns, the hours are very flexible. Central location of the offices. Even as an intern I had the privilege to have a mobile phone for work (even though I didn't need one and gave it back).

Cons

Definitely the salary. It's also something that has to be pushed from employees even if the track record is great (in some situations only displaying motivation to leave the company finally made people realize). People are getting complacent because they think that ABB is such a great employer and Interns should be grateful to get a chance in this company (at least that's how it feels like). Many buildings are extremely old and the equipment in the meeting rooms is as well. Adherence to rules and regulations are overboard, it makes the company extremely inflexible, they don't know when both parties benefit from exceptions. Information flow is insufficient top down. Since the company is going through a reorganization, nobody knows what's going to happen, due date was the first of April - no improvement as of now (personally I also don't think that this will improve in the coming years with the divestment of the power grids division to hitachi).

Pros

Good, steady company, good benefits, excellent middle management training program that embraces a European social-centric culture for its employees and ethics. Has a world-wide presence, nearly in every country as it provides infrastructure projects such as building dams, wind farms, railroad networks, transmission & distribution and substations. Industrial robotic automation and digital transformation is core to their current 2020 strategy.

Cons

Global 500 company, heavily bureaucratic, laden with red-tape, very risk averse, a bit stodgy trying to reinvent itself through the digital transformation, but struggling to overcome their manufacture, engineering background. Not all the business units embrace ABB code of conduct and ethics, nor value their employees equally. Little opportunity to move up in the corporate ladder as many of the middle and senior management are lifers.

Pros

Nearly everyone there is a genuinely nice person.

Cons

Business goals take priority over treating people with respect and dignity. Everything is driven by Europe. Countries have no autonomy and no power to make their own decisions.
