Send several paragraphs to edit that were written in absolutely horrible English. Also, multiple choice questions that included "Choose the sentence with incorrect punctuation" and similar such questions.
Edit the document, paying attention to: spelling, grammar, phrasing, etc. Overall, this was a very easy test, although personal issues with "phrasing" and word order could complicate the result. They also asked me to self-report the length of time to edit the document. They may be screening for editors who work at a relatively fast rate, maybe 1000-2000 words / hr.
The on line test is a multiple choice exercise about things that you will be asked to do as an editor.
I was sent a page or so of a sample text to be edited which I completed in MS Word, track changes mode, and sent back to them for review.
