Explain how a generator works. Why do you think you want to work at Amazon.......
I was asked about my experience with working with generators and my history at working for their competitor across the street. We discussed prime mover experience to include Diesel and Gas / Gaseous engines. We did not really touch on turbines and windmills. We went over different engine manufacturers to include Cat, Cummings, MTU, Detroit Diesel, Ford, GM, PSI, Perkins, Deutz, Isuzu, John Deere, VM Mitori just to name a few. We discussed Automatic Transfer Switches to include different manufacturers to include ASCO, Zenith, Square D, Cuttler Hammer, Emerson, Siemens to name a few as well as types of switches. Isolation bypass, open transition, closed transition. We discussed fuel polishing, Resistive Load banking, NFPA 70, I got a chance to ask about work life balance, the Local 701 Union, Typical work day and the usual queries one has with a new job. I was able to tour the rental yard and facilities. I was asked about digital voltage regulators and how one would replace and set up a new regulator to include wiring, and frame size selection. We discussed ECU and PLC logic controls such as the Basler 2020 and John Deere ECU software. We covered servicing the prime mover aspect of diesel fire pumps. Over all we touched on the major job functions of a field service technician and their roles in a rental as well as service setting. We also discussed equipment and tools to ensure I was geared to be able to perform any job function from changing oil, to pulling a head or injector, to diagnosing a bad DVR performing a full new install and start up. We discussed the size of generators I was used to working on as well as voltages and application. The entire process took about 3 hours most of which was filling out paperwork for HR and the applications for DOT screening / physical in addition to the standard back ground check.
