Hands down the most awkward interview I've ever had. I have 15+ years of experience and they had someone 2 years out of high school (and a previous intern up until last year) interview me. Shocking, to say the least. He phoned via Skype and without telling me anything about himself, the company, or the position, he immediately asked me to "tell me about your work history". He was very rigid and it was incredibly awkward. In the coding assignment (project) I was given, I was told to use whatever technology you want to use but only spend 3-5 hours. But if you run out of things to do, implement "u, v, w, x, y, z, etc.". I probably spent about 10 hours working on it but could have easily spent a week or more on this "brief" assignment. I was torn between spending a ton of hours on it to implement the best possible solution (but then would they expect someone to really implement a perfect solution in that little time, I wondered) or spending a little more time than they asked and implementing a workable solution. I chose the latter but paid the price as the boy interviewing me asked me why I chose the main technology that I did and not "xxxx". Clearly I chose the "wrong" technology. He only asked me 2 or 3 things and I answered his questions. At this point it was only 15 minutes into the interview and he said he didn't have any more questions. Wow. I then asked him several questions, including the tech stack and methodology they use. He briefly went over the tech stack but didn't answer the methodology question except to say it depends what you're working on. Huh, really? I asked him what he does and he stated he's a "software engineer" and then he struggled to describe a somewhat typical day for himself. He said he does a lot of code reviews. I asked him a few questions related to CSS and he could not answer those questions. If anyone at Khan reads this review, PLEASE train your people (interns and people with little experience) how to interview. And don't have a back-end dev interview a front-end dev. This entire experience is something that I will share at the next conference I speak at regarding how NOT to interview experienced developers. Honestly, the entire process was shockingly disrespectful. Needless to say, a few days later I received the generic "thanks but no thanks" email reply.
