The technical content of the interview itself was challenging but reasonable for the role. However, the most difficult part was not the questions themselves, but the manner in which they were asked. The interviewer’s style felt more like cross-examination by a lawyer than a professional discussion. His tone was highly intimidating, at times even sarcastic, and seemed focused on making the candidate fail rather than encouraging or motivating clear responses. This approach created unnecessary stress and distracted from what could have been a fair evaluation of my skills and experience. Usual technical stuff. The technical phone screen started off pretty simple (basic Unix questions/commands, basic networking) and then when into more depth (performance monitoring, performance tuning, troubleshooting questions). The face to face interviews w/management were more about assessing previous experiences, especially time when you faced adversity/roadblocks/etc and how you overcame them. These are more to evaluate critical thinking, problem solving, and cultural fit. The face to face technical interview can be brutal. Again, starts of pretty simply, and then we dove into the weeds pretty quickly with detailed AIX questions around VIO settings and configurations, performance tuning, and troubleshooting/problem solving questions. We switched gears to Red Hat, which followed the same kind of formula. Spent a fair amount of time discussing Satellite server settings/options and automation tools. Very challenging interview, make sure you are prepared!!
