I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at eBay (San Jose, CA) in Aug 2013
Interview
eBay flew me in from the east coast to San Jose and put me up at the Fairmont Hotel. I was on the top floor and the air conditioners on the roof made this high pitched whining noise all night so I could not sleep at all. I then caught a cab to eBay in the morning to meet with 7 people in a row with the big guy as the last meeting. The cabbie did not know where eBay was and dropped me off about 2 blocks away. They did pay for my lunch, and they booked me at the Fairmont and I had to pay for it with my credit card and they took about 6 weeks to reimburse me.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
After meeting with the 6 people, the last guy who is the boss of those people, 1st asked me to rank them in order of best to worst; i.e. how would I rank them as candidates for a position. What he was getting at was my ability to assess interviewing capabilities which is part of the job I was interviewing for but it definitely threw me for a loop!!
I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at eBay
Interview
The eBay recruiter reached out to me and set up the interview process. I cleared the telephonic interview and then I was invited for the onsite interview. They asked questions from Java, CSS, HTML, Product Design, Javascript, Algorithms, Puzzles.
I was told that the decision will be made in a week by the hiring manager very clearly. I waited for more than a week and reached out to the recruiter after I did nt hear anything from eBay. The recruiter kept saying that the decision has not been made and that they are still interviewing each time I would send an email. This continued for more than a month. I had similar experience with another eBay recruiter in the past where they do not show any courtesy informing the result of the interview. Sometimes the recruiter does not even respond to your email and phone call. The candidates are mature enough to understand that they have not been selected. A recruiter or HR sends a polite email conveying the message at most of the companies. The recruiting process at eBay is horrible... very unprofessional!
