How did you overcome challenges?
She mainly asked me to provide my career background (I am currently a Senior Account Manager and have been in client services for years). I noted I was familiar with the company as a previous employer had utilized them to motivate employees. She expressed pleasure in the fact I was familiar with them. I noted I was excited they were SD based and I love how they promote fitness & health as a priority among company cultures. She then asked me several basic questions (day to day, etc.) -then she asked me what I was currently making from a salary perspective - and then she shut down and told me I may not be a good fit. I was pretty excited about the role. It was disappointing that an HR person shut out what could have been a pretty good recruit if they proposed them and put them in front of the actual hiring manager who probably understands what transferrable skills are and day to day activities. It felt like the HR person was nice but didn't have a lot of industry or career experience and went down a checklist not thinking about value that people can add to the company if maybe they aren't a fit for the job... or even thinking or asking, would you be able to have some wiggle room in salary. I got the sense they don't care about talent as much as saving money.
Questions were too general and not interesting. The conversation was not engaging and it felt like the recruiter was checking off boxes.
