I applied online. The process took 5 months. I interviewed at World Food Programme in Apr 2019
Interview
I interviewed with the WFP Nairobi Office for the role of Nutrition Intern:
3 months after applying, I received an email stating that I had been invited to take a 20 question/25 minute aptitude test.
1.5 weeks after completing the aptitude test, I was invited to take a 2 hour subject specific assessment. It consisted of 10 questions regarding a case study and 10 questions that were specific to the subject at hand. All were short answer essay questions.
1.5 weeks later I was invited for an interview with 1 HR rep and 2 project leaders. It lasted about 45 minutes. At the end I was expecting to have some time to ask questions, but they said they didn't have time to answer any of them. The questions were straightforward and covered the topic at hand, the skills required for the position and my experiences. They told me that they would have their decision within a week because they were looking for someone to start the following week.
Every 3-4 days over the next month and a half, I reached out to the HR rep that had been in my interview to see if they had made their decision. I had other offers with strict deadlines but this was my top priority so I tried giving them as much leeway as I could. Each time, they told me they hadn't made a decision. After nearly 2 full months of this, I decided to accept another offer in fear of losing it.
Things move slowly in the world of international development, but I had higher expectations for this UN entity. I'm quite disappointed with how this process played out, and will be hesitant to apply to a position with them in the future.
