Initial phone screening was done with the team lead to determine fitment with the company's needs and requirements as well as past experiences etc. Largely standard type questions for the position, it was a bit distressing how out of touch the interviewer was with the state of backend development and available technologies.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Have you ever worked with Java, PHP, or similar backend technologies.
I applied through a recruiter. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Wayfair (Berlín) in Jan 2022
Interview
They will ask a person who has no experience of software development in their career to take a technical interview.
Surely watch out the linkedin profile of the interviewer before the interview. If the interviewer has never done the job (Software development in this case) which he is interviewing for, that is a red sign.
Such a person will see software development as black and white in their minds, but not as tradeoff. The fact is software development is a tradeoff, there is nothing called a perfect solution for every scenario. Unfortunately since my interviewer had no software development experience so he was very picky about syntaxes. For instance in the feedback its mentioned that candidate mentioned about cascade delete but didn't knew the syntax.
another point he mentioned was "Candidate proposed to use JSON field to store product attributes". Which during the interview I mentioned about how things can be stored in a noSQL mongoDB sort of database. But it seems he took it in context of SQL.
The baseline is such interviewers will have a fixed solution in their mind if you are checking all those points then it's a yes otherwise not.
I applied online. The process took 2 days. I interviewed at Wayfair (New York, NY) in Nov 2021
Interview
Submitted an application online and in a few days, they sent me a code assessment of 3 questions for about 120 minutes via email. There were one easy and 2 hard code questions.
