I applied in-person. The process took 2 days. I interviewed at Walmart in Oct 2011
Interview
There was a sign outside of the store for a job fair. I went inside, was directed to a kiosk in the customer service area. I filled out a standard application on the kiosk, then was prompted to fill out a questionaire reguarding ethics. The entire process took about 45-60 minutes. The next day, I was called back for an interview with an HR associate. We discussed my application and went over a few scenarios of past employment such as problems and resolutions to the problems. After the interview, I was promtly given a second interview by a member of managment. The interview was very similar, and contained almost the exact same questions. The interview process took a little over an hour. After the interview, I was scheduled an appointment for a drug test(which has to be done within 24 hours) in the neighborhood of the store.
