Interview process started with normal screening call with the HR followed by a call from Hiring manager and another 1 hour call with one of the team members. They shared the expectations pretty well, specially that they are looking for people who can work out of SF/NY office since majority of the team works remote
Was invited onsite and it was overall good experience. Everyone on the team was nice to talk to. I had one round/meeting scheduled with the hiring manager himself but he didn't show up and I was interviewed by another manager who led different team. He too joined a month ago so it wasn't of much help when I asked him specific questions about the role.
I was positive since I did well and there was nothing I couldn't answer or had conflicts with....but alas, I got the standard response "we found the other candidate to be more suitable" for the role. The truth is - nobody fits exactly into anything. You yourself did not fit into your job description, but they hired you.
People are not square pegs to be fitted into square holes.
For a candidate to fit, you have to make room, you have to give them the benefit of the doubt, you yourself have to be flexible. You are interviewing your own ability to bring them up to speed, to make room for them, your own flexibility.
