      Technical Support Engineer Interview

      Aug 10, 2016
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Raleigh, NC
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 4 days. I interviewed at Varonis Systems (Raleigh, NC) in Aug 2016

      Interview

Varonis' interview process needs a lot of work. I was not actually interviewed. Me and eleven strangers were sat down in a conference room and handed a series of essay questions based on several role-play scenarios. We were then split into groups in order to collectively evaluate these role-play scenarios, and produce a review of how the mock tech support rep handled the mock call. After answering those essay questions, we were sent into the break room for half an hour while our answers were "graded." Having apparently not made the cut, I was one of several applicants who were sent home at that point. I have several issues with Varonis' process. 1. I was asked to prepare a presentation on a particular piece of hardware. I studied this piece of hardware extensively, for several days, in order to make sure my presentation was the best it could be. I was never given the opportunity to actually GIVE my presentation. 2. Nobody from Varonis so much as sat down with me. I was personally asked exactly zero verbal questions. I was not permitted to interact with the hiring manager. Considering that Tier 1 tech support is heavily focused around the representative's interpersonal skills, the fact that I was sent home before I was given the opportunity to display those skills is ridiculous. 3. At the point where I was "cut out," none of the essay questions had had anything to do with Varonis' products, which I had studied extensively before coming in. 4. So much groupwork. It's got to muddy the mixture a bit when you have groups of 4 applicants answering questions as a unit. All in all, while the fact that I was sent home after Stage 1 may color my opinion a bit, I feel as though I was not given anything close to a fair chance. My aptitude for this position was not gauged well, I was given no opportunity to establish a rapport with management, and I was sent home before I had the opportunity to prove myself.
