I applied through a recruiter. The process took 3 months. I interviewed at Unity (Montreal, QC) in Mar 2020
Interview
I got contacted by the recruiters (3 different ones). I took the time to prepare for their test since the evaluation platform is different from real work environment and tasks. Note that they do not evaluate the mastery of their own technology by the candidate which I find at some point kind of disappointing.
I got proposed three different positions from which they said I was hand picked.
First one was given to someone else (I had 2 interviews and didn't try the test yet).
Second one, I had 3 interviews and passed the test. At that point I talked with 6 different people in the recruitment process. One of them (who knows?) decided out of the blue that I "wasn't interested enough in the project", but everything I did and said did not support such statement and I called it BS. I explained the situation to the recruiter. I go answered that I should have played the game of sellout and lied if necessary. Hypocrisy seems to be common and expected from candidates.
For the third one, after I answered positively, I got told that they'll get back to me and never did. How can you tell someone that you specifically chose them for a job because they are a special fit and ghost them?
Overall, I talked with 3 recruiters, applied for 3 different roles, got 5 interviews, passed one test and it lasted around 3 months.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Codility test of four questions and 2 hours to answer.
Regular questions in person. I was very average. Nothing very positive and more like a profiling approach in the negative use of the term including the bias.
I also got questions about some technological problems they were facing in order to extract information from me for a new solution or validate their own solution.
The interview process started with the company showing interest to proceed with the process after my application. Then I had about 2 interviews with my recruiter to get to know me better and give a chance for me to ask questions. Then came the take-home task since the whole process was handled remotely. After completing the task, the technical interview followed. Then the final interview was about the decision. Each interview was preceded by the necessary information that makes oneself more comfortable with what to expect in the meetings/interview segments.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
- Non-technical questions revolved around being empathetic, understanding, and really being considerate while working with others.
- Technical questions - no intention to trick the interviewee and if one can code, the tasks/questions should be doable.
