I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Unity (Montreal, QC) in Mar 2021
Interview
1. HR call
2. Coding test on codility
3. Manager Screen interview
the whole process is quite smooth, everyone is nice to talk. But you should be very familiar with the Unity engine before the interview, not only how to use it to develop a game.
I applied through a recruiter. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Unity (Bruselas) in Jul 2021
Interview
weird experience, I got contacted on LinkedIn, the call lasted 20 minutes, it seemed good to me and the interviewer told me he was setting up a second call but I immediately received an email to thank me for applying (which I didn't) and ask me to evaluate the process. Then I contacted the interviewer to ask for an explanation, he said he made a mistake by moving me from one department to the other and that he would have contacted me again to set up the call. I am still waiting.
I applied through an employee referral. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Unity (Copenhague, Hovedstaden) in Aug 2021
Interview
I was recommended for this position by an internal employee. Never applied myself. After the referral it took Unity 2/3 weeks to first reach out to me. The recruiter sent an automated message “thanking” me for my interest in the position with no mention at all that they were reaching out because I had been recommended for the job.
They then sent a time slot suggestion for an interview, but since I couldn’t take it I reached out again and asked to please suggest at least 3 alternatives and mentioned by availability timeframes. The recruiter then asked in which region I was based, to which I replied the same day. After that I heard not a word for over two weeks and then suddenly again an automated message (no apology, no reference to my last email) asking to block a meeting in the recruiter’s calendar.
By this time I was honestly annoyed and rejected the invitation.
Can only recommend Unity to make its recruiting process more human in the future. Also to differentiate between actual applicants and recommended candidates. If you want to attract talent you have to do much better than just being Unity.
