      Senior Software Engineer Interview

      Oct 9, 2020
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      San Francisco, CA
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Unity (San Francisco, CA) in Oct 2020

      Interview

This interview was for Senior SDE position for Data Infrastructure team. The interview process was very straight forward. Online test and then interview with the Senior member from the team and possible virtual onsite after that. The interview with senior member was more based on Previous work experience and nothing too technical. The interviewer was based in Copenhagen and I thought I had wonderful discussion with him as it was not too much technical and I basically answered all the questions except for few tools experience which I believe was not a deal breaker as per the job description. After two days I got an automated thank you email stating they are moving forward with another candidate. It was such a waste of time, and technically I do not understand how someone can gaze technical skills without actually discussing a technical problem. I believe they had already decided whom they had to offer and they were just waiting to hear back from the other candidate on the accepting the offer. I had to email recruiter on the confirmation as the automated email was very generic and I had applied for other positions as well. The recruiter who was very responsive during the initial stages in the interview process and after I cleared the online test, stops responding immediately after my interview with the senior team member. I understand that it was no go for that particular role and I also understand they won't be able to provide feedback to all, but atleast to a candidate who has invested so much time in the process, they should at least as a courtesy clarify that the email was for the same position. Overall very unprofessional!!! If you have an interview with the company, please make sure you have experience in all the tools that's mentioned in the job description. If not, you are just wasting your time in interviewing as they would have already decided whom to offer the position. One request I have to the management, please show some courtesy to the interview candidates, especially its difficult time for them with current COVID situation and people losing jobs. They would have dedicated their time and effort into the process, at least have that courtesy to respond to them. Positive or negative feedback is secondary, but provide them some feedback if possible. I would never apply to this company again. Please do not waste your time in doing so!!! Good luck..

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Online test was tough, but managed to get the output and going through the medium level leetcode problems will definitely help in doing well in the online test. Interview with Senior member from the team was very technical oriented with work experience and no live coding. Questions based on previous work experience.

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Unity (Mountain View, CA) in Mar 2026

      Interview

Overall, I had a very positive experience. The process was a bit long (a little over a month), but it also included the Easter holiday period in Europe/Montreal. The process was: HR phone screen, hiring manager interview, take-home assignment, technical round, and three virtual onsite rounds (Product, Behavioral, and ML knowledge), followed by the final decision. There was only one coding assessment, in take-home format. The algorithm/design pattern/GitHub parts were quite basic. There was also some web development content (CSS/HTML layout), which was more challenging for me since that is not my primary area. I then had a technical round that focused mostly on past experience rather than the take-home assignment itself. In the virtual onsite rounds, the last ML round covered many ML topics. I prepared a lot and was able to answer many of them, though not all. The interviewer was very helpful and willing to share knowledge, which I appreciated.

      Interview

The interview process began with a phone call with a recruiter, followed by a Zoom technical interview with the team leader, who asked about my experience. After that, I had two system design interviews, and finally an HR and senior manager interview.

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Unity (Copenhague, Hovedstaden) in Jul 2025

      Interview

I started with an initial conversation with Recruiter team, where the process was clearly explained to me. After that, I quickly moved to a high-level discussion with the hiring managers about the team’s architecture and specific needs. I was then guided into several technical interview rounds — about four sessions, each lasting around 45 minutes. These included both team members and experienced professionals from outside the team, with diverse backgrounds. Almost every stage included a coding assignment component, as well as high-level discussions and deep dives into relevant parts of my background. The entire process took around four weeks in total: about two weeks for the interview stages to be scheduled and completed, and another two weeks before I received the official result. Throughout the process, interviewers were intelligent, collaborative, and supportive. I enjoyed the experience and gained a clear understanding of what the role involves. The challenges were fair and engaging, without feeling overwhelming. I was very happy with the outcome.
