I applied in-person. I interviewed at US Postal Service
Interview
Massive set of questions and testing. Understand it is easier now . There is a difference between "in service" and "outside". In service means you already are employed there. The testing is easier in service. So I suggest just get in, then transfer to the job you want. Also depends if their area has a position available. However, they do have a "roster" holding for people who have qualified.

Question 1
Required to show skill set on an actual troubleshooting board where they insert faults. At the time you were also given a "black box" with test points. The object was for you to identify the unknown parts inside. (electronic parts) very easy if you know basic electronics.
I applied through other source. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at US Postal Service in Jul 2009
Interview
It was necessary to complete and present a written resume useing a standard Company form. The required format for the resume seemed awkward. Interviewers on the panel were friendly and courteous, yet seemed to lack intimate knowledge of the skills required for the position. Given the small number of candidates interviewed, the actual placement decision took severasl weeks. It seemed unnecessarily long.
