I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Toyota Motor Corporation (Epsom, England) in Dec 2019
Interview
I applied for a contract position to work in Toyota Head Office in Epsom, United Kingdom as Middleware Software Engineer.
It usually starts with a phone interview and then an on-site, face to face interview.
I jumped straight to the face to face interview because they were in a rush to find someone.
I was interviewed by 3 members of the staff (also contractors) that were on the company for many years. Very relaxed interview and at least during the interview they looked nice guys. We spent some time talking about my previous experience and how I solved specific problems.
We also discussed about Agile and good practices. I got the feeling they don't have any kind of Agile in place and follow some sort of random approach as methodology.
There was no coding exercise either. Not sure if it is a usually practice or just on my case.
What they asked me to do was to analyse a problem they had on their systems and to propose a solution. I also got the feeling that I was giving free consultancy and that it was a common practice for them.
I felt they were trying to find someone to act as a plumber to integrate all Toyota systems so they could move data from one place to the other. Most of their systems are legacy and the existing approach to technology is far from common and correct.
I am a very experienced Software Engineer with almost 20 years of experience in different industries, hence I have a rate that matches my experience and skills. They were offering an already lower rate and still had the courage of dropping even more when they made me an offer. To compensate they offered me to work from home 1 or 2 days a week, as if that was a great and unique benefit that no other company would have.
I immediately rejected and completed disregarded this company for any future work as I feel they don't have any respect for their employees and I am only looking from the salary perspective.
Overall I don't think this is the best place to work and for the salary they pay you can't expect to have an interesting or rewarding job.

Simple. They'll usually have you meet with the hiring manager first and then if you move on, it'll be around a 2-3 hour long interview process and may be in-person with a coding technical and then a behavioral interview.
