I received an e-mail saying I would have a Skype interview between the hours of 10.30-11.30am on a weekday. I took the morning off work and had been preparing for a week or so in advance, checking on this site for advice and learning the facts and figures about Emirates.
I had an e-mail on the morning of the interview saying it would be over the phone and not Skype so waited around next to the phone. At 11.20am I finally received the call over a very dodgy speakerphone, finding it very difficult to hear anything they were saying (sounded like they were on the opposite side of the room to the phone and a window was open with lots of outside noise - cars etc).
The questions from HR were to the point and as expected. The question from the technical person was obscure, to say the least, had a very tenuous link to my CV and little relation to the actual job I was being interviewed for. Apart from that, the accent of the person asking the questions was quite strong...coupled with the very poor phone line, it was almost incomprehensible. I tried to politely ask for it to be repeated but again, it was difficult to catch everything.
I tried to answer what I thought was being asked but I thought it was caught on the hop...as it isn't really an area of expertise for me. A little unfair in my opinion. I was asked one last question by the HR person - what is my current salary; then the interview was brought to a close...no more than 10 minutes from (a late) start to finish.
I was told that I would hear back from them about the next stages in no more than 2 weeks. I finally got a mail to say that I wasn't successful about 5 weeks after the interview. All in all, very unprofessional and not what I expected from a company like Emirates!
