      Software Engineer Interview

      Apr 4, 2012
      Anonymous employee
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through college or university. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at TE Connectivity in Nov 2011

      Interview

The process started at a career fair at Penn State University. I prepared several resumes to hand out to each company I felt best fit my skills. After that day, I waited roughly 2 weeks for a phone call. Then, it happened. I answered the phone and I setup a date to have my first interview in my local area. The first interview went really well for me. I was asked several questions about my resume; my military experience, where I have traveled, and the education I have received, just to name a few. The entire time I was relaxed and ready to answer any question they could possibly ask. I have nothing to hide and I know I'm worth it. This is the mentality I carried with me during the process. We spent over an hour just talking back and forth. Even though the scheduled time was for a 45 minute session. After the interview we shook hands and said our pleasant goodbyes. I waited for another 2 weeks, roughly. It happened again. I received another phone call, saying they wanted a second interview. This time it was in their city. I was excited. It was a two day vacation. They paid for travel, room, and food. Who could ask for more? When I arrived to my hotel we met up for a briefing and dinner. The briefing was an opportunity for everyone to meet and greet, among other things. There were some powerpoint slides and speeches for our gain. After the briefing we were dismissed and free to roam about for the rest of the evening. In the morning we were given our itineraries for the day of interviews. Some had one or two, but I had three. This took me by surprise because I thought I was just there for the one. It turns out your resume is looked at by more than just the one you are applying for. All three interviews went great. Again, I was relaxed and worth it. Each interview lasted about 30-45 minutes. In between interviews, we ate and went on a tour of the company. At the end of the day I got in my car and drove back home. Roughly, 10 days later I received another phone call with an option to pick any of the three positions. It was a difficult decision to make and they made it as less stressful as possible. The interview process was a good experience for me and it is a necessary formality to get your foot in the door.
