I applied online. I interviewed at Superdrug (Swanley, England) in May 2019
Interview
Applied online for a new store in Orpington and was offered an interview which was held at Savers in Swanley. It was a group and 1 - 2 - 1 interview. I got there to the dirty and old store and was taken to the back and upstairs where we sat and introduced ourself saying why we want to work at Superdrug. Then were split into 3 groups and were given 15 minutes to build a bridge out of paper and sellotape so they can assess our communication skills. Me and two other girls were very vocal in the activity and were being assessed by a Superdrug worker who had only been working there for 8 weeks. Finished the activity and all came back together to be told some of us were going to be cut. The interviewer seemed happy as it was her ‘Simon cowell’ moment and cut about 7 of us including me. Even though I contributed more than one girl in my group she got to stay!! Absolutely fuming and humiliated as thought I was doing well! I would definitely not recommend a Superdrug interview especially as a first job or as a young person.
I did a video interview, which was fairly easy, and then interviewed in store. The interview in store consisted of me handing out baskets to customers, but I wasn't really observed for this part. Then I had to recommend a tanning product to my interviewer and advise how to apply it. I was then taken back to the break room and asked some basic interview questions.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Give me an example of a time you worked in a team?
I was asked to stay on the shop floor for the first half of the interview. This was to see how I interacted with the customers. This lasted for about 10 minutes. They look for you to let the customers know of you're presence (to minimize shop lifting).
