I applied online. I interviewed at SpaceX (Columbus, OH) in Jan 2021
Interview
Friendly and Tough but fair questions. They felt genuinely interested in experiences. 2 engineering interviews followed by a presentation in person. Asked some personal questions as well as a few technical questions
I applied online. I interviewed at SpaceX in Dec 2020
Interview
Had several interviews (approximately 6) across multiple positions (approximately 4). Two interviews were asking basic questions, e.g. strengths/weaknesses, greatest accomplishment, etc. Those were about 20 minutes and with great recruiters. Three of which asked EXTENSIVELY about my past experience. Be able to talk about the small technical details of your past jobs. Talking about my past technical experience was more or less a conversation and did not feel like an interview! Those interviews went about an hour. The final interview was with an arrogant Engineer who asked me BASIC engineering questions and made me guess which answer he wanted.
I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at SpaceX (Los Angeles, CA) in Jul 2019
Interview
A recruiter reached out and asked if I was interested. I then had three phone calls with engineers on the team with an open position. Each call was mildly technical and lasted about an hour. I then had a final in-person interview at their facility in LA. I gave a 20 min presentation about a project I'd done in the past followed by 20 min of questions. The final step was a bunch of 1hr individual grilling sessions with other engineers on the team. If any decide you don't fit the bill, the recruiter comes back in to tell you you didn't make it and shows you out.
