Applied online and received a phone call within 2 days for the initial phone interview. Roughly one week later I had another phone interview with an HR rep. An on-site interview was then scheduled for about 2-3 weeks out. The on-site interview included a tour of the facility and 4 one on one interviews (one peer, two managers, and a director). About a week later I was informed that things went well and another phone interview was scheduled with a VP. About a week after that, HR notified me that the interview went well and we would be progressing. The final step was drafting an executive summary for approval by the CEO, which also took about a week. After receiving the CEO's approval, a background and references check was conducted. About a week after the checks were completed I received an offer.
A couple quick notes:
- If you're flying out for the on-site interview, SpaceX puts you up in a very nice hotel and covers all your travel costs.
- The facility tour is awesome!
- Interview attire is considered "business casual". To me that means a sport coat/blazer, but this was not recommended by HR. It's a VERY casual environment, and it's probably just about the only interview I've been in where a suit would have looked noticeably out of place.
- Make sure you have some good examples of your past successes in mind before you head into the interview. I wouldn't use the STAR format verbatim, but it's a good guideline.
