Applied online and received an email from Recruitment team interested to proceed with the interview. There were 2 links in the email one where I can put in my availability which I did and followed up with an email but I haven't heard back and the other link where you have visibility of their calendar and you can book the interview which I used as well. I have received a confirmation email for the interview time. After spending time doing my research on Slack the recruiter didn't even show up, I sent her an email and never replied. This just says a lot about apathy in this company and not respecting people's time.
I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Slack (San Francisco, CA) in Jul 2020
Interview
Interview started with a phone call with the recruiter, then a 1/2 hour interview with a senior member on the team, next, a four hour Zoom that started with an hour presentation/exercise that took 30+ hours to prepare.
Fast forward a couple months, the hiring manager chose to bring in his former coworker from their previous employer that they both had recently left. Hence, I’d conclude he and Slack were just going through the formalities of interviewing other candidates when someone else was already preselected. Frustrating. I’d like my 35 hours back please.
The rest of the team that I interviewed with and HR were all terrific, fun and pleasant.
The reason given that I wasn’t chosen—they didn’t get a sense that I had a “strong point-of-view for the role.” I adamantly disagree and recall clearly communicating how I’d envision the role and how to solve challenges in both the Zoom interviews and the hour-long exercise. Again, when you’ve already pre-selected your buddy to fill the role, you have to come up with something!

Interview
First-round was a discussion with a recruiter. It was nice and informative. The second round was with the hiring manager which surprisingly finished in 20 minutes. He shared an exercise with me.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
1. Normal basic interview questions
2. The interview exercise wasn't relevant to the role. As per instructions, you are allowed to write in your language and not necessary to be production-ready tool in 2 hours. After submitting the exercise, I didn't receive any response at all. At 10th day, I asked for the follow-up and then I came to know that I have been rejected because my tool is written in bash, and it is not production-ready (please read full comment to relate entire situation)
