I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Sephora (New York, NY) in Mar 2018
Interview
I went through 3 interviews, the first was a group interview with the HR specialist, next was an interview with the general manager, lastly with the store director. They mainly asked for my experience, how I work with costumers, very basic interview questions, the majority of the questions they asked were listed here on glassdoor.
The second interview was the most thorough, they ask questions about makeup trends, skincare, but also a lot of “what if a costumer ...” kind of questions so it’s a bit more in depth.
I didn’t have to do a demo but I did have to compete one AFTER I got hired and had color 101 and 201 trainings.
I applied online. The process took 2 days. I interviewed at Sephora (King of Prussia, PA) in Jan 2014
Interview
There is a standard interview, where they gas your head up with promises that they don't keep. It's more about your retail ability than anything else. They want to know you have the personality to sell to clients and build baskets. You have to make them "your best friend", so charisma is important. The other part consists of testing your selling ability during makeup application (they don't care so much about skill as they will, or are supposed to, train you). Again, you have to be able to sweet talk the client into buying just about everything you apply to them.
I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Sephora (East Lansing, MI) in Sep 2017
Interview
They ask you about yourself and your preferences in products. Very casual and done outside of the store. Both managers of the store were present. Very rehearsed and from a script.
