Situation:
During my role as a Business Transformation Services Intern at Alvarez & Marsal in New Delhi, I was assigned to a critical project involving pre and post-M&A deal advisory for the largest insurance company in Sri Lanka. Midway through the project, our team faced an unexpected challenge when a key senior analyst had to take an extended leave.
Task:
I had to adapt quickly to cover the responsibilities of the absent senior analyst. This included taking on additional tasks such as advanced financial analysis and developing risk mitigation strategies to ensure the successful completion of the divestment process.
Action:
To manage this, I restructured my workflow to accommodate the extra responsibilities, prioritizing tasks to maintain efficiency. I collaborated closely with other team members to distribute the workload evenly. I also utilized my technical skills in Excel to create a comprehensive 7-page financial analysis report, benchmarking 20 insurance players on competitiveness, risk, and synergy capabilities.
Result:
My adaptability led to the successful completion of the project within the original timeline. The detailed financial analysis I provided resulted in a 6% increase in the overall competitiveness of the divestment recommendation. Our client was highly satisfied with the outcome, which significantly increased the asset's market value post-divestiture by 20%.
