      Mechanical Engineer Interview

      Apr 30, 2009
      Anonymous employee
      Houston, TX
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at SLB (Houston, TX) in Oct 2008

      Interview

The initial interview consisted of a one on one meeting with one of the senior engineers at the company. There was a general discussion of what the company did and what I should expect to see if I came to work for them. I was able to ask specific questions and those were answered in fairly great detail. Followng that interview I was invited back for a more detailed interview at the campus I would be working at. When I arrived I was brought to a room and asked to wait there. My first interview here was conducted with an HR rep. Typical questions were posed and answered. Following that I was asked to wait again while the other interviewers were located. As it turned out there was some confusion as to who was interviewing me which resulted in some longer than normal waiting. Once everything was sorted out I was interviewed on a one on one basis by three senior managers. Each asked questions about my back ground and education. One manager did pose a difficult question about how I would design something which caught me off guard and flustered me a little. Following these interviews I went to lunch with the one of the sernior manager and the Senior engineer. Following that I received a tour of the campus and that concluded the interview.

      Interview questions [2]

      Question 1

Since you have been away from engineering for so long how to do you plan to learn the things that you need to, to bring yourself back up to speed, while still getting the work expected of you done?

      Question 2

You have a tool which must remain attatched to a rigid pipe until it is in place. Once in place that tool must be free to slide up and down over a set distance. How would you accomplish this without using electronic, hydraulics or mechanical means. All you can use is the movement of the pipe in order to accomplish this.
